E-methanol: electricity-cost sensitivity

Assume 10 MWh per tonne of methanol. This chart shows the electricity component only, not total production cost or a market-price forecast.

Calculation: price × 10 MWh/t. Selected scenario, reviewed 14 September 2026. The intensity assumption is consistent with the approximate 10–11 MWh/t discussion in IRENA and Methanol Institute (2021), p. 44, with CO₂ supplied. It is not a current plant guarantee.

Every USD 10/MWh matters.

In this scenario, a USD 10/MWh change adds or subtracts USD 100 per tonne of methanol in electricity cost.

Carbon supply, capital recovery, other utilities, storage and delivery still need to be included before comparing complete production routes.

The earlier illustrative biomethanol crossover curve has been replaced because its intersection was not backed by a documented project model.

My core focus is hydrogen and carbon capture, including alkaline electrolysis, DAC and industrial carbon capture. Green fuels and carbon utilization are related applications. Cooperation starts with a specific need and an explicit scope, not a promise of universal supply coverage.

About Xin Yang

A technical background. A practical starting point for cooperation.

I am Xin Yang. I hold a PhD in Power Engineering and work across new energy, hydrogen and carbon capture. Carbon2X brings together my professional background, research and interest in international cooperation.

I am the Founder of Beijing Zhonghe Qingyuan Technology Co., Ltd., focused on alkaline water-electrolysis catalysts and electrode materials, with work extending to electrolyzer design and system integration. I also serve as Deputy General Manager of Beijing Derunchen Environmental Technology Co., Ltd., working on the commercialization and international development of solid-amine carbon capture materials and process equipment for DAC and industrial applications.
